Check Your Reading Skills

Why worry about reading skills? Because most college-level courses require a lot of reading--and it's not enough to say you have read the assignments. You must also understand what you read and retain the information.

Here's how you can check your reading skills:

1. Go to the Learning Resources site at http://literacynet.org/cnnsf/home.html.
2. Click on the Story of the Week button.
3. Select the Story.
4. Read the story.
5. After reading the story, click on Multiple Choice from the choices at the left side of the screen and answer the questions.

How did you do?  If you got less than 100%, you may want to spend some time honing your reading skills. First, select a reading strategy.
